Description

This image displays a cross-stitch piece depicting figures in the "Jugendstil" style, which flourished from 1900-1909.

Jugendstil is the German manifestation of Art Nouveau, an artistic movement that emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries across Europe.

Jugendstil translates to "Youth Style" and takes its name from the Munich magazine Die Jugend.

It is characterized by organic, curvilinear forms and an emphasis on flowing lines inspired by nature, including plants, flowers, and human figures.

The movement aimed to integrate art into everyday life and promote innovation in design, challenging academic traditions.
Early Jugendstil, before 1900, was predominantly floral, influenced by English Art Nouveau and Japanese art, while a later phase became more abstract, influenced by Viennese work.
