Description

Beautiful vintage print depicting a sailor.
The original of the pipe-smoking fisherman was painted in the 1920s by Harry Haerendel.

The image shows a painting known as "Fiskargubben" (The Fisherman) in Sweden, or "Der alte Seebär" (The Old Seebear) in German.

This famous motif, likely originating in Skagen, Denmark, depicts a pipe-smoking fisherman wearing a sou'wester hat.

The most well-known version was painted by the German marine painter Harry Haerendel.

The model for Haerendel's painting is believed to have been Karl August Rydberg, a sailor born in Gothenburg, Sweden, in the late 19th century.
